Preparing for the Job or Internship Search
Informational Interview
Informational interviews are a great way to explore career options, learn about different organizations and grow your professional network. They are casual conversations with someone who is working in a position or field that interests you. Informational interviewing is a common practice in the U.S. and should be a regular, ongoing part of your professional development, and it is never too early to start. If you have never done this before, it could be intimidating, even for domestic students. Consult the Career Guide and PackPros to learn how you can conduct an informational interview.
Networking & LinkedIn
Informational interviewing is one tool that you can use to build connections with NC State alumni and industry professionals. You may also attend career fairs, employer events on campus, and network via LinkedIn. Networking is an integral part of the job search process. Consult the Career Guide and PackPros to learn how to prepare for career fairs and set up your LinkedIn profile.
PackPros is a FREE professional development and career readiness series including topics such as career fairs, LinkedIn, resumes, cover letters, informational interviews and more.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Cover Letter
US-based companies will generally ask individuals to send in a one page resume with their education, work experience, and leadership experience along with a cover letter when applying for a position in the company.
A cover letter allows you to introduce yourself to a company that you’re interested in and allows you to share your story and express your interest in the company in greater detail. You can also talk about your personal and unique qualities that help you stand out as an applicant.
Students can attend drop-in hours to have your professional documents reviewed.
