High Impact Experiences

High-Impact Experiences (HIEs) are hands-on, immersive opportunities that allow students to apply what they’re learning in real-world settings while building the skills employers value most.

Co-op

The Co-op Program allows students to alternate semesters of full-time, paid work with full-time academic coursework. This extended experience helps students build deep industry knowledge, develop professional skills, and graduate with significant, relevant work experience.

Rural Works!

Rural Works! connects students with paid summer internships in North Carolina’s rural communities. Students gain meaningful, hands-on experience while contributing to organizations that make a real impact—helping address workforce needs and strengthen local economies across the state.

State Employees Public Fellows Internship Program

The SECU Public Internship Fellows Program provides paid summer internships with government agencies and nonprofit organizations across North Carolina. This program is ideal for students interested in public service, offering opportunities to contribute to meaningful community initiatives while developing professional skills and networks.

Global Engineering Internship Program: Ireland

This unique international experience allows students to complete an engineering internship in Ireland while gaining global perspective and cross-cultural professional skills. Participants work with international employers, expand their global network, and develop adaptability—an essential skill in today’s workforce.

Career Development Center Student Intern Program

The Career Development Center’s Student Intern Program offers on-campus, paid internships where students gain experience in areas such as front desk operations, career programming, marketing, and student support services. Interns develop transferable skills while contributing to the Career Development Center’s mission of supporting student success.
