Your Pack, Your Path: Career Readiness For First Years

Starting college is exciting—and sometimes overwhelming. That’s why the Career Development Center created Your Pack, Your Path: Career Readiness for First Years, a workshop series designed specifically for NC State first-year and transfer students.
This series includes both virtual workshops and in-person, hands-on Career Labs that will help you explore your options, build confidence, and set yourself up for success from day one.
Whether you’re still figuring out your major, curious about career paths, or ready to start building your professional brand, these sessions will give you the tools and support you need to navigate your first year with confidence.
Virtual Workshops
Format: 20-minute overview + 10-minute Q&A
Each session stands alone—attend any or all! Simply complete the registration form to sign up for the workshops you’d like to attend. A Zoom link will be sent to your NC State email before each workshop so you can join online.
In-Person Career Labs
Hands-on help from professional staff and Career Ambassadors. Bring your laptop!

Overview of the Career Development Center
Discover the Career Development Center and learn how to take advantage of the resources, programs and opportunities available to support your career journey from your first semester through graduation. Leave with the first steps of a personalized career action plan.

Design Your First Year Career Action Plan
Students will create a personalized first-year career action plan that outlines intentional, achievable steps for exploring career interests, building skills and gaining meaningful experiences. This workshop emphasizes progress over perfection and helps students develop a roadmap for making the most of their first year at NC State.

Career Assessments: Learning About Yourself
Discover how career assessments can help you better understand your interests, strengths and career possibilities. This workshop introduces Focus 2, the O*NET Interest Profiler and CliftonStrengths, and explores how these tools can support informed decisions about majors, career paths and future opportunities.

Clifton Strengths & Career Assessment
In this interactive workshop, you’ll explore how your unique talents connect to potential career paths, workplace success and professional growth while identifying strategies to leverage your strengths throughout your time at NC State.
Location: Talley Student Union Room 4280
RSVP is not required but encouraged.
This interactive, hands-on workshop is designed to help students make the most of the Focus 2 Career Assessment. Participants will complete or review their Focus 2 results, learn how to interpret their interests, values, skills, and personality, and explore how these insights connect to potential academic programs and career paths. Career professionals will guide students through the platform, answer questions, and provide strategies for using Focus 2 results in academic and career decision-making.
