Last month, Human Resources professionals from across NC State gathered for their annual conference, Innovating HR to Adapt and Thrive. This year, attendees were encouraged to bring donations of gently used professional clothing to benefit the Career Development Center’s Wolfpack Styled Professional Clothing Closet. The response was overwhelming: the conference generated 182 items of professional attire—including suits, blazers, dress shirts, and dresses—that will directly support NC State students as they prepare for interviews, internships, and career fairs.

As part of the event, Rebekah Dunstan, Director of Professional Development in the Career Development Center, spoke to the HR community about the impact of the Wolfpack Styled Closet.

“These donations come at the perfect time,” Dunstan shared. “We’re right in the middle of a busy career fair season, and the number of students visiting the Wolfpack Styled Professional Clothing Closet has never been higher. The generosity of our HR colleagues ensures that every student can walk into their career opportunities feeling confident and prepared.”

Since its founding in 2014, the Wolfpack Styled Closet has provided professional clothing to thousands of students, with nearly 800 visits last year alone—its busiest year to date. This growth reflects the increasing demand for accessible professional attire and the important role the program plays in preparing students for career success.

The closet was created to reduce barriers students face when preparing for interviews, career fairs, and networking events. Professional attire can be costly, and by offering free clothing, the program ensures all students can fully participate in career opportunities.

“When students feel appropriately dressed, they walk into interviews with greater confidence—an advantage that can make all the difference,” Dunstan added.

Kelly Vance, Senior Program Specialist for HR Benefits, Wellness & Work Life, who helped coordinate the drive, reflected on the importance of the effort.

“The HR Conference is about strengthening our campus community, and this was a meaningful way to give back,” Vance said. “Professional development is central to student success, and we are proud to support the Career Development Center in this mission.”

With the support of campus partners like University Human Resources, the Wolfpack Styled Professional Clothing Closet continues to expand its reach and impact, empowering NC State students to thrive in their professional journeys.
